[ Canon Point ] : After chapter 77, where Tora taught her how to tie a ribbon. [ History ] : Here & here [ Personality ] : "If you see a kid that makes you think weirdo, that's her."Now, no need to get offended, that is just Yotsuba's dad describing her. And to be honest, it is completely true. Yotsuba is a five year old girl who possesses boundless amounts of energy --if she has had her nap-- enthusiasm and a unique view on the world to boot. Almost nothing can get Yotsuba down, at least not for long, and even a rainy day is just another excuse to play outside wearing rain boots and a raincoat. And not only that, her enthusiasm is pretty infectious, often leading to her dragging other people into playing games or doing things they didn't even want to do. Though they end up enjoying them anyway. Yotsuba is a precocious little child who doesn't know how to talk to adults. That is to say, for all her good intentions, she hasn't exactly mastered social custom yet. She's not a complete wild child and she certainly has some manners but she is still in the process of learning and sometimes she needs to be prompted a little to remember to say 'thank you' or 'excuse me'. Especially the concept of keeping certain details quiet, or a little white lie, is something completely lost on Yotsuba. She will call things as she sees them though without ill intent. She isn't trying to be mean when she calls someone's legs fat. It just means that from her point of view, those legs are bigger than that she is used to. A lot of Yotsuba's odd insights come from the fact that as a five year old, she has a very limited view of the world. Someone who can buy butterfly nets and a cage is probably rich, milk is made from toothpaste and water --though she did later learn that milk, in fact, came from cows and you squeeze it out of the udder-- and a car probably costs as much as a whole box of ice cream. Maybe half a box. She takes a lot of things at face value, can be easily tricked as long as someone sound convincing enough and whenever she doesn't know something, she'll make something up. Yotsuba is constantly curious and eager to learn. She often badgers people to teach her things or explain things to her even if they are far beyond her scope of understanding. And if people fail to explain something to her, she'll pat them on the arm and tell them it's okay, she doesn't understand either! When Yotsuba has mastered something new, she goes through a period of constantly practising her new skills and showing them off to everybody. Even if those people weren't exactly interested in watching a little girl tie a bow. While she is generally a good natured kid that always see the sunny side in things, she can get frustrated too. Her patience is not the best, and things that she can't do often make her stubborn. Especially if she can see other people do those things easily. This will generally mean she will try and do them even harder and more stubborn --and usually even worse-- until she has to grumpily admit defeat. Similarly while she generally get along with almost everybody, she has her arch rivals. Yanda, one of her dad's friends is one of these rivals. He always manages to bring out the grumpiness in her. She's a kid though so she doesn't hold onto her grudge very well. Especially if Yanda has cool things for her to play with. Overall, Yotsuba is very fearless. A bit too fearless even. While her daddy taught her good things like 'never go with strangers' or 'don't run on the stairs', in her boundless enthusiasm, she is quick to forget these things and sometimes ends up hurting herself. But her head is pretty hard, so it usually isn't too bad. Sometimes she does get scared though. Bird-scaring balloons are her biggest enemy, and a lot of things that are somewhat similar to that --like the big staring eyes of an owl-- will also have her running for cover. While Yotsuba tries to be a good girl, she isn't always. She can lie --though being a five year old, her lies are usually pretty easy to see through-- and sometimes even lies about lying to try and get out of something. In general, while she knows some things are wrong to do, she has not yet developed the impulse control to stop herself from doing those things all the time. Similarly, Yotsuba is not immune to throwing temper tantrums or sulking. While it is not something she does often, sometimes when she is not getting what she wants, or she feels really hurt, she will wail and cry and throw herself to the floor. Language wise, Yotsuba can speak in full, understandable sentences, though she sometimes mixes up words. An example of this would be that while her dad works as a translator, she might pronounce it as transistor. It is mostly the same, right? And because she watches a little more TV than strictly necessary, and also watches japanese drama shows and movies with her daddy and Jumbo, she know some truly strange lexicon. She's capable of parroting back sentences from movies and shows without quite knowing the context of the words. Similarly, she sometimes says things she has heard her grandma say, leading to some truly odd things creeping into her speech. As an aside, I know she is pretty young. However in the manga she is allowed to wander fairly freely and never has much problem. She also easily bonds with everybody. And most important of all, Yotsuba has practically no sense of time. She thinks spring comes after summer, that going to sleep early in the afternoon means it will be tomorrow when she wakes up, and she can't even tell time. So while she will miss her daddy, to her it will likely continuously feel like she has only been here shortly. Between that and the people that will hopefully keep her safe and busy, she won't be too sad. And hey, maybe someday someone will app in a daddy for me. [ Strengths/Weaknesses ] : + Bountless enthusiasm. + She seems to have a really high tolerance for pain, occasionally getting smacked in the face even without really seeming bothered. + She is pretty fearless, hardly shy at all, and interacts easily with pretty much everybody. - Even for a kid, she is pretty naïve and unfamiliar with a lot of things. - She is terrified of a few things such as bird scaring balloons (but not regular balloons), owls, tengu and oni. - No, seriously, she is five. She's going to not understand a bunch of things, miss her daddy sometimes, mess up, lie, get in trouble, laugh and go on with life. [ Other Important Facts ] : She can count and read. Well, in the manga she can only read hirigana, the most simplistic of japanese writing systems, so for Vat she will only be able to read small, easy bits of writing. No long words. She will be bringing with her - Duralumin her teddy bear. - Hey toy camera which can make actual pictures and transfer them onto a computer via USB. [ Sample ] : [ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] : Okay, so I figure Station Master is not going to let her up on the island unless accompanied by another person so we don't have constant drowning going down here. Can I do that? Of course, I can do that, I am a mod. |
